Privacy policy
Last updated 21 October 2026
RainBrain (“we”, “us”) runs the weather data service at rainbrain.tech: weather stations, the client portal and the weather data API. This policy explains what personal information we handle, why, and your rights. We follow the Philippine Data Privacy Act of 2012 (Republic Act No. 10173).
What we collect
- Client account details: organisation name, contact name and email, and the email used to log in to the portal. Passwords are stored only as secure one-way hashes.
- API keys: stored only as one-way hashes; we record when a key was last used.
- Telegram alerts (optional): if you connect Telegram, we store the chat ID and chat name Telegram gives us, to send you alerts about your stations.
- Technical logs: our server keeps standard request logs (IP address, time, page or API endpoint) for security and troubleshooting. API keys are removed from these logs.
- Cookies: one essential session cookie keeps you logged in. We use no advertising or tracking cookies.
- Weather and device data from the stations (e.g. temperature, rainfall, battery level). This is not personal information.
Google user data
The RainBrain administrator can connect a Google account so that RainBrain saves monthly backups of its weather data
to Google Drive. For this RainBrain requests only the drive.file permission, which lets it create and
manage the files it creates itself; it cannot see or open any other file in that Google Drive. We store the Google
account's email address and an access token, and use them only to upload these backup files. We do not use Google
user data for advertising, do not sell it, and do not share it with anyone. RainBrain's use of information received
from Google APIs adheres to the
Google API Services User Data Policy,
including the Limited Use requirements. The connection can be removed at any time from the RainBrain portal or from
the Google account's security settings.
How we use information
- To provide the portal and the API, and to control access to each client's stations.
- To send the alerts and service messages you asked for (portal, email, Telegram).
- To keep the service secure, find faults and back up the weather data.
We do not sell personal information and do not use it for advertising.
Sharing
We share information only with the service providers that run RainBrain for us, and only as needed: our hosting provider (servers), Seeed Studio's SenseCAP platform (station data), Telegram (alerts you connect) and Google (backups the administrator connects). We may disclose information if the law requires it.
Retention
Account information is kept while you are a client and deleted within 90 days after the account is closed, unless the law requires us to keep it longer. Server logs are kept for up to 90 days. Weather data is kept as part of the service's historical record.
Security
All connections use HTTPS. Passwords and API keys are stored as one-way hashes, access to the servers is restricted, and the database is backed up regularly.
Your rights
Under the Data Privacy Act you may ask to access, correct or delete your personal information, object to its processing, or file a complaint with the National Privacy Commission. Write to us at admin@rainbrain.tech.
Changes
We will post any changes on this page and update the date above.
